Venice Urban Lab

​The exhibition of gmp von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects UMBAU, It officially opened on May 18 at the Salone Verde in Venice! During the inauguration, the German Federal Minister for Construction, Urban Development and Construction, Klara Geywitz, and the President of the Federal Office for Construction and Regional Planning,  Petra Wesseler, spoke to the public.

 

Following, the speeches of Sergio Pascolo, President of Venice Urban Lab, official partner of the exhibition, and Volkwin Marg, founding partner of gmp von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects, as well as Stephan Schütz and Nikolaus Goetze, curators of the exhibition. 

​

UMBAU (conversion) means the continuous transformation of existing structures. As societies change, so do the needs of buildings. In the context of this continuous process of change, those who reuse and recycle materials and components save resources, avoid waste and use the grey energy stored in existing buildings.

 

This is why UMBAU, an ancient cultural technique, is gaining new importance in the face of climate change.
