Venice Urban Lab

Cities are highly complex places where human activities are mostly concentrated. Well-planned cities can ensure economic prosperity, mitigate environmental degradation, reduce social inequality and build stronger institutions.

A planned urbanization process improves the quality of life and generates immense environmental value. On the contrary, if unplanned, urbanization poses a threat to environmental sustainability: uncontrolled expansion, irreversible changes in land use, loss of biodiversity, resource-intensive consumption patterns and high levels of pollution.

Among other interventions, Sergio Pascolo, president of Venice Urban Lab, spoke about urban regeneration, the New European Bauhaus and how to make cities more livable.
